‘Not until the first shovel hits the ground…’

Posted by Wally Londo on 18th July 2009

‘Not until the first shovel hits the ground…’

It is a mantra repeated by cynical marlins fans who didn’t want to let themselves get excited by the new ball park because, quite frankly, we’ve been burned too many times before.

But ignoring the obvious fact that construction crews have been on site every day for two weeks, today is the day those shovels go in the dirt.

At 10 am, the Marlins official groundbreaking ceremony begins, and it’s an historic day for the franchise. After all of the hurdles and poltocal manuevering and back room dealings, everything is in place got the Fish to be playing in a new facility by 2012 in Miami, and for the forseeable future.

Fish Guts’ Wally Londo and Rab Bethan will be there, so expect pictures and first hand accounts soon.
