This just in from mlb.com the St. Louis Cardinals obtained Mark DeRosa from the Cleveland Indians for pitcher Chris Perez and a player to be named later.

Mark DeRosa, 33,  is a lifetime .278 hitter over 12 seasons.  This season in Cleveland, his first, he is batting .270 with 13 homers and 50 RBI while playing 3B, LF, RF and 1B.

Why gag? because he now makes the Cards (that the Mets just took 3 of 4 from) an unstoppable juggernaut, or because now the Mets are doomed to finish 4th instead of winning the WS without him?

Nice enough player, but I just didn’t see him being that much of a difference maker in Citifield.

Not sure what the Mets would have had to give up, but I assume Parnell + the PTBNL? And who knows what that would be.

I am fine with standing pat, unless they can make a trade with a reasonable cost (beating the dead horse, either take on salary, or if you are giving up talent, make it for womeone who fills a hole next year)

  2. dirtysanchez says:

well i guess we can cross him off the list then

  3. gland says:

I don’t think he was worth trading Parnell for. And Perez was at least as highly regarded a prospect as Parnell.

De rosa’s a nice player but where would he fit in with the mets he has good home run pop in small parks the mets need a power hitter just for presence in the line up.The cards got way more problems then derosa can fix, there starters asside for carpenter and pinero when he’s not facing the mets are doomed loshe is still hurt, no big deal the brewers should make some moves and win the central. But this is good finaly a move maybe moore teams will get realistic and start dealing

  5. You guys have already pretty much covered my reactions, so just to summarize: DeRosa - not enough of a difference maker to help the Mets, who would’ve had to give up Parnell plus to get him.

One thing no one’s mentioned yet - Holliday was mentioned often in “to the Cardinals” rumors, perhaps they are out of the running for him now?

Oh wait, wasn’t that the Derosa the Mets talked about also? Well it’s ok since he was but a stop gap kind of player anyways.
I am just worried Wright can’t take much more of this. He has never had to carry such a heavy load by himself. It seems if he doesn’t do it right now then no one else will.
Feels like everyone is just going through the motions waiting for the cavalry to arrive but by the time that happens it may be too late.
On another note why does it feel everyone else in mlb know how to hit hr’s in Citi Fields except for us? I mean shyt the Yanks and Phils come in to town and all this talk about them not being able to hit hr’s in Citi seems like a joke to them. I’m just saying that’s all.

    • gategem says:

Precisely, so how do we know whether or not Derosa can hit them out of Citi Field. Have all his HRs scraped the other side of the wall at the 360 ft sign on the way down?

He also has 50 rbi’s and if they bat him in front of Pujols he will get some great pitches to hit.

The Cardinals are historically a good organization that know how to win. I would not sell them short.

BTW So many blogging experts put down the Dodgers and Ned Colletti in the off-season. How are the Dodgers doing now?

It feels that way, but according to the article, other teams are being robbed as well. I feel you on DWright. The man is going to have to carry this team until everyone else arrives (if they do). I hope he can keep it up and doesnt burn out before the break.

This actually makes me feel better for two reasons.
    1) I now know I have a clue what is going on. The price for DeRosa was Parnell.
    2) Omar is not into trading our future for a backup MI who will be a FA next year.
