Mike Pelfrey (6-3) pitched 7 2/3 shutout innings, helping the New York Mets to end a 5 game losing streak as they beat the Milwaukee Brewers and Yovani Gallardo (8-5) 1-0.

The only run of the game came in the 6th inning.  Ryan Church singled in Luis Castillo, who had led off the inning with a double.  It was Church’s 19th RBI of the season.

Pelfrey tired in the 8th, and was replaced with 2 outs and 2 runners on by Sean Green.  Green induced J.J. Hardy to ground the ball to David Wright, who stepped on 3rd base for the force out to end the threat.

Francisco Rodriguez allowed a lead off single in the 9th to Ryan Braun, but then sent the Brewers 4-5-6 hitters down in order to preserve the win and record his 21st save.

    Pelfrey displayed leadership today.

I’m surprised Jerry didn’t manage to lose today’s game.

    *sarcasm*

    LOL - ‘Shake Your Rump’.

We all know the only way we’re staying in this until reinforcements make their way back is with pitching, pitching and more pitching. The offense is as good as it gets with what we’re penciling in every day. We have to keep the offense off the board and capitalize on the couple of runs we might manage to get.

    Apparently, Pelf got the memo.

Kudos to Big Pelf on a game very well pitched.

This is something I didn’t think we’d see from Pelf until next year. He was a stopper today. After the all-star break when Santana is his second-half self, if we get healthy and have Pelfrey, Maine, and Perez living up to capabilities we will win the division.

  8. smooth says:

great game by wright really producing an 0-4 game with 3 strikeouts, im getting real tired of his strikeouts and lack of power

dude, wth? The guy is having a great season. He is at or near the top of the league in most offensive categories, and he is even batting well over .300 with RISP. He is carrying the team with all the injuries, and yet people still try to knock him down.

You getting tired of his fantastic offensive stats and SB’s also? He did the right thing by altering his approach at the plate to better suit citifields dimensions.

kingman, did you catch David’s response to Franco:

“With all due respect to Johnny, he doesn’t know what’s going on in this clubhouse,” Wright said Wednesday, after the Mets beat the Milwaukee Brewers 1-0 to stop a five-game losing streak. “I don’t feel the need to have to defend myself as a leader. If these guys in here respect me and think of me as a leader, that’s what I need.”
