The SCRAPPY Mets (39-39) enter Philadelphia (39-37) for a 3 game set starting tonight. Our boys hope to make it 3 wins in a row but standing in their way will be (RHP) Rodrigo Lopez. Here’s the skinny on Lopez who will be making his Phillies debut.

Per MLB.com,
“Right-hander Rodrigo Lopez will make his season debut Friday against the Mets. He takes left-hander Antonio Bastardo’s spot in the rotation. Bastardo is on the DL with a strained left shoulder. Lopez is 5-4 with a 3.91 ERA in 13 starts this season with Triple-A Lehigh Valley. He is 65-65 with a 4.80 ERA in his seven-year Major League career. Because of arm problems, he last pitched for the Rockies in 2007. Lopez signed a Minor League deal with the Phillies at the end of Spring Training after they watched him pitch in the World Baseball Classic.”
At Lehigh Valley, Lopez composed a 5-4 record with a 3.91 ERA and 1.35 WHIP.
The Mets have never faced Lopez.
Lopez’s Pitchfx Type & Velocity (2007) according to fangraphs,

Slider - 18.5%/82 MPH

Scouting Report according to thebaseballcube,
| Scouting Report | |
| Control: | 75 |
| K-Rating: | 54 |
| Efficiency: | 59 |
Control: Walks compared to batters faced.
k-Rating: Strikeouts compared to batters faced.
Efficiency:Similar to WHIP, a higher rating for pitchers allowing less baserunners per inning pitched.
The ratings are based on formulas that sum a player’s entire career based on available statistics in our database, including minor league and college data. These scouting scores are to be used as indicatorsof a player’s strength. A career minor leaguer might have a speed rating of 100 though this does not insinuate that he is a better runner than a major leaguer with a speed rating of 90. Though it does indicate that a player was an excellent base-stealer in the minors, we do not know how he would have fared in the majors.
According to baseball-reference , Lopez is most similar to retired pitcher Armando Reynoso. Reynoso played for the Mets from 1997-1998.

Thank you for including the picture. In my head I had a mental image of him that I now realize was Aurelio Lopez, not Rodrigo Lopez.

lol, no doubt. This series pitching matchups are in our favor with the Mets facing Lopez, Moyer and Blanton. The Mets have Livan, Nieve and Santana. Gotta win 2/3. Nothing less.
I hear you. I wish I felt so bold. With 3, 3 & 3 against the Phillies, Dodgers and Reds I think I’ll be happy with anything better than 3-6 overall, considering the decimated roster. If they should somehow manage 5-4 I’ll be ecstatic.
I “predicted” 12-14 in the 26 games in 27 days leading up to the All-Star break. So far they are 7-10, so I need that 5-4 to get it right.
Both teams have lost 2 starters to the DL so far. The Mets have weathered the loss of Maine and Ollie far better than Philly has in losing Meyers and Bastardo(?). Their most consistent pitcher to date has been Happ. We’ve still got Johan, Pelfrey and Livan. Our problem has truly been lack of offense more than lack of SP.
Nieve gave us 3 of 4 quality starts.
Redding, while being mediocre so far, has really pitched a bit better than his record has indicated.
We’ve got Niese, if needed.
We’ve got Figgy for a spot start or two, if needed.
We’ve got Ollie who should be back in about a week.
We’ve got Maine who hopefully will make it back in a month and contribute.
All the above are ML experienced, even Niese on a small scale.
Not only does Philly not have competent depth, their BP is falling apart.
We have little in the way of offense right now b/c of injuries. Philly isn’t getting much offense these past few weeks and they’re only missing Ibanez. Howard has been streaky, Werth and Victorino not having the years they did last year and Rolling has been in a year long slump so far.
I like our chances this weekend.
I guess I can’t really argue much of what you state. The one thing I’d throw in there is that Ollie is a lost cause in my eyes, but that’s just me. I don’t expect him to contribute meaningfully this year. If he does, that’d be great! Wouldn’t it be ironically funny to have Ollie come back and lead the charge to the WS while being our best pitcher? LOL Oh, Ollie, when will your head ever be right…?
I hate Lopez, but he’s no Bastardo.
The mets have a way of always making another pitcher whos supposed to be a nobody look freakin great.I’m not overly confident in a win tonight.
Nothing would surprise me in Mets world, at this point. Once our ‘core’ guys hit the DL, best I figured we could do from day to day is ‘expect the unexpected’. And that’s the way it’s been shaking out so far for the past month. So Ollie coming back and dominating (hahahahaha) would just be more of the unexpected…..
