Mets Notes:
- Pelfrey bounced back from two sub-par outings to deliver a gem in his last start, holding Milwaukee to six hits in 7 2/3 scoreless innings. He went into the eighth inning, throwing 107 pitches while walking two. Pelfrey has faced the Dodgers just once in his career, a 3-2 Mets win last May in which he took the no-decision. He threw seven innings, giving up two runs on seven hits, striking out six.
- Pelfrey was solid in his only start against Los Angeles on May 31, 2008, allowing two runs and seven hits while not factoring in the decision of a 3-2 win.
- The Mets have won only twice in their last 10 games, and are coming off a three-game sweep to NL East-leading Philadelphia as they were outscored 13-3— including 2-0 on Sunday. David Wright was 0 for 7 in the series and he’s 5 for 40 with a homer and three RBIs over the last 10 games. Despite his slump, Wright has a .326 average and was one of four Mets named to the NL roster for the All-Star game. He’s hitting .427 with 34 RBIs in 36 games against the Dodgers after collecting four hits with an RBI in the last series.

- Los Angeles had squandered a six-run, fifth-inning lead, but improved to a major league-best 18-8 in one-run games. Los Angeles is 22-8 this year when Ramirez plays. His bat wasn’t missed when these teams met at Dodger Stadium in mid-May, when Los Angeles pulled off a three-game sweep as its pitching staff held the Mets (39-42) to six runs.
- Clayton Kershaw didn’t pitch in that series but he’s allowed just two runs in his last four starts—all Dodger wins—while striking out 26 in 23 2-3 innings. The left-hander returns to the mound after laboring through five innings Wednesday, not getting a decision as he gave up one hit with five strikeouts and five walks in a 1-0 win over Colorado. “It was a lot of effort involved to get through five innings (Wednesday),” Kershaw said. “There wasn’t an easy out for me. Just had to battle all the way through, and sometimes when you’re not able to throw strikes consistently, it’s going to be like that.” Kershaw lasted just 3 2-3 innings in his only start against New York, giving up four runs and five hits in a 9-5 win on May 30, 2008.

Don’t you have to throw a fastball there to Hudson? After all, it’s Pelf’s best pitch and the one he’s most likely going to throw for a strike.
What was up with the Furcal AB? Why not challenge him more? Change-ups? Really?
That’s called pitching scared, Pelf’s got too good of stuff to mess around with the deep counts. He just has to trust it more.

Wow, two innings, 65 pitches for Pelf. Not exactly what you call efficient.
I would say I’m dumbfounded, but nothing with this team surprises me anymore.
If the Mets continue to slide (which it seems they will), let’s end the lovefest with Fernando Tatis and play Murphy and Evans every day. I’m so tired of seeing Tatis in the lineup. He was a great story last year but there was a reason he was out of the majors for a good part of three seasons.
This is depressing. When will it just become laughable? I am longing for laughable.
We’re teetering on the laughable line as we speak. Does anybody out there still have faith in Omar? Now I know we can’t blame him for the injuries, nobody could have predicted that. But he did an awful job this offseason. It was like he addressed the bullpen and said, that’s it I’m done. We’re all set. Anybody with a functional brain knew this team needed another outfield bat, even before everyone went down. Some people don’t like Dunn, I happen to think he was exactly the type of bat the team needed. Stick him in the 5 or 6 spot and watch him slug 40 homers, drive in 100 and walk over 100 times. Sure he’ll strike out a lot and his defense isn’t good, but he would have made the team better and could have been had at a relatively cheap cost. Guess they were all in love with Murph (and I’ll admit, I was drinking the kool aid too but still wanted Adam Dunn) and figured he could do the job.
I’m with you 100%. And I love Dunn. It’s time for Omar to go sell cars.
My friend this team has needed another bat
for 3 yrs.This offseason,we needed
a Leftfielder who would
then allow Murphy to play the entire season in AAA learning a position. We also needed help for RF
AND Omar needed to do ANYTHING needed to rid
us of Castillos contract,sign Hudson
and change up the Clubhouse chemistry.
Not to mention being
more creative once we couldnt land Lowe.
Some people didn’t like Randy Wolf, but I was for signing him over Ollie because he would have been a lot cheaper, signed for one year and then freed up some money for a hitter. Wolf isn’t great but he’s a decent pitcher and much less of a headache than the enigmatic Perez. Omar must go, and this is coming from a guy who used to support him wholeheartedly. But when you look at each deal/signing he’s made, I’d say there has been more bad than good…..

No, I was for Garland as well, Fongy and who knows he might have pitched better in a pitcher’s park. Still, signing Wolf and Garland would have been MUCH better than Redding and Ollie, cheaper too. Omar likes to spend the Wilpons’ money, but he never spends it wisely (cough, Luis Castillo, cough).
Previous to Ollie and Wolf signing contracts Metsgeek did an analysis on the value of signing each. Using stats that the people there seem to be the only ones aware of (I’m joking) they concluded there wasn’t much difference to pick from and Ollie appealed to the Mets because of his previous Mets history. I went back to see if I could find the analysis but unfortunately it was too long ago and so I’m relying on my memory so you can take that for what its worth.

That was pretty much the case on the bases loaded walk.
This might be the 2nd worst team in the NL behind the Nats as constructed. Omar and the front office arent interested in helping. They are on the way to 90 losses.
Easily 90 losses, I’m not convinced we’ll finish ahead of the Nats.
Yeah pretty sad when 1-0 feels like 10-0, yet with this team, that’s the case.

I think I have a solution for next year wright at first base.His feilding is starting to get on his mind
I’ve been thinking that for awhile. His main problems are his throws, I think he would be a heck of a first baseman.

When you really look at Omars “good”
moves they are almost all ones which
were no brainers and/or fell into his
lap. Pretty bad when the best you can say about the guy is “O.K.,he didn’t
screw that up” Which he almost did anyway with Delgado,LoDuca&Bel-Tron
anyway.
Mets requirement: Get a guy on base, next guy must hit into DP
There may be a positive side to all of our woes. The Wilpons have shown themselves to be extremely reactionary. So if the Mets lose 90 games or more and the ball park is empty, the fan base is angry, next years ticket sales drop and the media laughs at the club perhaps the Wilpons will loosen the purse strings beyond what they are presently (even though the payroll is presently large) and if Omar uses that money wisely then next year can really be the next year in “wait till next year.”

I think it’s pretty obvious at this point that this team has given up.
So Juan Pierre can’t help this team.
Unfortuneately, I think the team just might be starting to feel sorry enough for itself that they dont think they can win, dont expect to win, and frankly dont care that much.
I dont want to believe it, but if it is true, they are going to drop like a stone.
Only up side is that Omar wont have a chance to make a dumb trade, and it might get ugly enough that some really change happens.
Maybe its time to bring up the other b team.whoe evers in triple a coulnt be any worse.How many innings since a run?
