Game Thread: Mets (39-43) vs Dodgers (53-30)
Posted by dirtysanchez on 7:00pm, Wednesday July 8th 2009

Game Time: 7:10pm

Record: 1-2 Era: 9.97 K: 20 BB: 21 WHIP: 2.26
Mets Notes:
- Perez still appears to have control issues; witness the 17 baserunners, nine via walks, in 9 1/3 innings during his two rehab starts against Triple-A batters. But Mets general manager Omar Minaya says that Perez is ready, so he’s set to pitch on four days’ rest, displacing Tim Redding, who has been assigned to the bullpen. Perez’s most recent performances against the Dodgers have reflected the kind of pitcher he is. He has a 2-3 record and a 5.97 ERA in five starts since the beginning of the 2006 season. The left-hander allowed 30 hits, six of them home runs, and 22 walks in merely 28 2/3 innngs.
- New York however, is playing some of its worst baseball of the season. The Mets, who have lost four in a row and nine of 11, have not scored in the last 22 innings. Tuesday’s defeat marked the first time since May 24-25, 2005, in Atlanta, that New York had been shut out in consecutive games. “When you don’t hit or hit singles, you’re a team that looks lethargic, and that’s what we are right now,” said Mets manager Jerry Manuel, whose club has scored three runs and is batting .183 during its four-game slide.
- All-Star third baseman David Wright went 0 for 3 with a walk Tuesday. He is hitless in his last 16 at-bats. While the injury-ravaged Mets are eagerly awaiting the return of Jose Reyes, Carlos Beltran, Carlos Delgado and others from the disabled list, left-hander Oliver Perez makes his first start since May 2 after rehabbing patellar tendinitis in his right knee.
- “Hopefully he can get to the 100-pitch mark with a chance to win the game. Hopefully he has command, and I’d like to see good stuff,” Manuel told the Mets’ official Web site. “I’d like to see the life on his pitches.”
- Perez, though, walked nine in 9 1-3 innings in two starts at Triple-A Buffalo. He is 5-5 with a 3.88 ERA in 11 starts against Los Angeles.

Dodgers Notes:
- In Ramirez’s first game back, right-hander Hiroki Kuroda yielded three runs and four hits in a 6-3 win at San Diego. Despite the Dodgers staking him to a five-run first-inning lead, the right-hander matched his second-shortest outing of the season with 5 1-3 innings.
- He will make his third career start against the Mets. Facing them twice in 2008, Kuroda was 0-1 with a 12.00 ERA. He didn’t last past 3 1-3 innings in either outing as the Mets hit .441 against him.

Well, welcome back, Ollie (I think?)
Please, may we score at least one lousy run tonight. Even better yet, put up a win.
I getting overruled from watching the game by my 3 year old. Are the fans at-least not booing Ollie? I might not like him but the last thing we need is to kill his mentality. 1 run trough too aint so bad right now.
I haven’t heard any boos yet. Watching on SNY.
If you were an Ollie supporter in the offseason may I ask your rationale? I’m not picking a fight, I just want to know what you saw? Certainly the numbers didn’t indicate he would be the next Randy Johnson (as some suggested). There were some similarities early on, but the direction those numbers were going for the two were fairly different. Anyway, you got him. 3 straight two out walks, that’s Ollie.
Odds Ollie puts up a zero after the Mets finally put up a crooked number?
I’m pleasantly surprised with Perez only giving up one run that inning.
Well, that’s about as good as we can expect from Perez. Not bad work, not great, but solid #4 material.
yeah, 7 walks…ouch. Usually all those walks bite us hard.
He means business!
Daniel, the Magician, Murphy….
Must hold on to win this game. Braves/Marlins/Phils win. Dang.
This Manny fella is pretty good. No?
Except in left field.
LOL. At least not in Citi field. On that one play, they showed him mouthing ‘WOW’. Welcome to Citi, Manny. HAHAHAHA!
Frankie making us sweat that win but he got it done. Whew!
