Termites Berroa-ed into Angel's bat

Termites Berroa-ed into Angel's bat

Apparently I need to be more specific when I pray for help.  I said “God, please let the Mets get somebody,” and clearly I was too vague, for the Mets have acquired Angel Berroa on waivers from the Yankees today following yesterday’s acquisition of Jeff Francoeur from the Atlanta Braves.  So the Mets now have a former rookie of the year in Berroa, and a player who came in 3rd in rookie of the year voting in Francoeur.  Berroa will report to Buffalo, Francoeur will report to RF and the 5th spot in the order.  Woo followed by Hoo!

I'm down with OBP (yeah you know me)

every day, I move one step closer to Omar needing to be abducted to save the future of the Mets, as opposed to him just needing to go!

OBP, how can I explain it
I’ll take you inning by inning
To have y’all battin’ shall we swingin’ it
O is for On, B is for Base scratchin’ temple
The last P…well…that’s not that simple
It’s sorta like another way to explain a fraction
Jeff’s got a hundred OBP points that are missin’ here
You get on occasion versus lefties
As a game ‘n it seems I gotta start to explainin’
    Bunt it

You down with OPP (Yeah you know me)
Who’s down with OPP (Every last Metsie)
You down with OPP (Yeah you know me)
Who’s down with OPP (All the Metsies)

    • “There’s no room for relationship there’s just room to hit it
How many brothers out there know just what I’m gettin’ at
Who thinks it’s wrong ‘cos I’m splittin’ and co-hittin’ at
Well if you do, that’s OPP and you’re not down with it
But if you don’t, here’s your membership”

Perhaps this “just room to hit it” explains why Frenchy never walks.

My prize came today (faith and fear in flushing). Looks good. My son grabbed it and is reading it.

So far, I had to explain to him who Mike Vail was.

I may not get it back for a while.

    • Did you have to sit down while explaining Vail? I know I would have had to. Given what went on with the Mets in 1977, it’s a year I prefer to forget, not revisit.

Unrelated, for everyone who’s dying to know, Frenchy got uniform #12.

I loved that book - probably b/c Brooklyn Mets Fan is only a couple years younger than me and became a Met fan only a year after I did (’69). His memories throughout the book brought back so many for me. I just passed it on to my sister who is another long time Met fan. Enjoy!

He has been readin gme passages. Just had to try and remember exactly what the “pendeltonian debacle” was.

I went to my first game in 1973 (nosebleeds, freebies for drinking Dairy Lee milk!) and became hard core in 1976.

I still remember being ticked off that my parents wanted to watch the ‘76 olympics instead of the Mets. Hey, they finished .500 that year!

Ha! So your childhood was more in line with Greg Prince’s than mine was. His parents weren’t so into baseball either and didn’t quite get his obsession with all things Mets until later years.

I got my love of the Mets from my Dad who was an old Brooklyn Dodger fan and then a NY Met fan since their inception in ‘62. To this day, he’ll call me up during every game at about the 3rd inning or so and say ‘So what do you think?’. Then, if they’re winning will call me up in the 9th. If losing, the phone stays silent….

Awesome! I hope you enjoy it! :)

Been busy all day and just signed on. Did I say how much I love this site? I was able to get all Mets updates in the past 24 hours from the ‘Goodbye, Ryan’ trade, to the weather for the game tonight, to the minor league updates, to this latest acquisition. And all with the greatest sense of humor from ya all which we as Met fans, can all use right now….Just great stuff guys….

So Angel Berroa? Okay… At least Omar is doing SOMETHING.

Going on record that I don’t think we got a whole heck of a lot trading for JF. The only upside I see is the age. He’s a head case (thinks on base percentage is overrated) and we already have one head case too many in Ollie. I really hope I’m wrong but if the Braves organization couldn’t fix him, and that Ranger’s hitting guru couldn’t help him, any chance Hojo works a miracle? Sigh…

All is well..we still have the Jackie Rotunda!!

  6. tkfj says:

Ok. But why is Berroa in AAA, send down OurAnus Reyes and get a legitemate backup infielder on the big club.
