    while you certainly have to still hold out hope for 2009 (even if your heart deson’t say to, the standings do), I am looking forward to 2010, for a number of reasons:

    1) Sheet years happen, and even to good teams in the middle of competitive runs. And, this year certainly qualifies. Maybe it is just the wisdoom of experience (IOW, being old and having seen, if not all, a whole hell of a lot!), but I don’t go suicidal if they don’t make the playoffs.

    2) I love the “hot stove” season, especially now that there are blogs like this to discuss moves, and critique Omar. And man, this year should be a lot of “fun”, since the team is in need, and postitioned for (based on contracts) for a major overhaul. Although of course, Omar scares me.

    3) The biggie? After the season, everyone is back to a 0-0 record!

    the only thing I really ask is don’t let the Phils win it all again (over even make the WS). If they are in the playoffs, please have them get smoked quickly

      no time like the present stick - I will stand by this team until they are eliminated mathamatically and even then

      • rustyjr says:

        DAMN CUT OFF lol as i was saying - even then i will stand by this team - I just wonder what they are going to do next year - i.e cut payroll - not go after type a free agents so they dont give up draft picks go against slot during the draft resign delgado - it is all a mystery to me cuz i really do believe the yanks will get Holiday

    does mr. met have a internal flux capacitatorin his pinto ?

  3. oleosmirf says:

    next year is going to be very predictable. Omar will address the lineup (somewhat) and do nothing to help the rotation. Not looking forward to that at all…

  4. Mr North Jersey says:

    Minaya will sign Jason Bay to a 4 year deal.
    Minaya will sign Bengie Molina to a 2 year deal.

    I know this cause I just got back from the future in my Delorean.

    • oleosmirf says:

      and who plays 1B???

      and what will our rotation look like???

      Santana, Pelfrey, Maine, Ollie, Niese is not good enough…not even close…

      • prismo says:

        Omar will only have around $30mil to spend, he can’t make this a super-team with that kind of money. We’re probably looking at one good bat to replace Delgado, either a top notch reliever or a mid-level starter (just one of the two), and a bunch of Omar’s usual low-mid level players to fill the rest of the open slots. At least that’s what I would do if I had $30mil to fill a number of roster spots.

        • oleosmirf says:

          we need a 1B, C, 2B, LF, and 2 SP

          of course they cant all be all-stars but they dont have to be 2 all-stars and 4 minor leaguers like we have been doing.

          Castillo needs to go just for the sake of bringing in new blood, Pelfrey is not a #2 SP and Maine or Ollie are not #3 SP.

          LF i can deal with F-Mart even though Martinez is nowhere near ready. 1B Murphy kills us with his bat and his glove. we gotta find someone to play there and catcher doesn’t have to be Molina just a simple veteran is fine…

          • prismo says:

            Lol if you think Omar’s getting 2 SP then you’re going to be sorely disappointed this offseason. I wouldn’t be surprised if he didn’t get even one. And I’m not sure I’d blame him if the money’s spent well elsewhere.

      • Mr North Jersey says:

        Oleo while too much information is dangerous (space time continuam). I will tell you this.
        Santana,Maine,Ollie,Pelfrey, and Niese will round out our starting rotation. You will be happy to know that they are going to happily surprise you.
        In the pen Krod, Parnell, Feliciano, Green, Misch will round out da pen but expect a nice surprise that is all I can say, space time continuam you know.

    • Did you see the Sleestak? Whoops, wrong time travel.

      Despite the fact that I am generally the glass half full optimist, my thoughts on Jason Bay are these: I believe the Red Sox will re-sign him; but if for some reason they don’t, why is Bay (or for that matter, why is any free agent) going to sign with the Mets?

      The Mets are widely perceived from without (and somewhat also from within) as a bad organization. Now their apparent contradiction of sound medical advice (Adam Rubin’s article today) to the detriment of the team and it’s individual players is public knowledge. I wouldn’t want to trust my body (my moneymaker) to these people.

      The only attraction to come play for the Mets is if one is enamored of the idea of playing in NYC but the Yankees don’t want you, or money. The Mets are once again going to have to clearly outbid any other rival for a free agent to get that player, and they just aren’t going to have the money to do that at all the positions they’re going to need to do it.

      It’s going to be ugly for, at best, the next 2 or 3 years. If the current administration, which has largely created the mess we are in now, doesn’t suddenly figure out a different course of action, it will be ugly for much longer.

      In my amateur opinion, the next time the Mets will be a truly relevant contender for a World Series title, Carlos Beltran will no longer be on the team (either because his contract will have expired or he will have waived his no trade to get out of Dodge) and players that we hope are prospects are really going to have to pan out, such as FMart (who will essentially be replacing Beltran), Thole, Holt, Niese & Davis.

      Change the names as you see fit but the idea is the same. Only when multiple inexpensive young players are filling key roles successfully on this team will they then have the money and the cache to attract the truly good free agents whose signings may put the team over the top.

      I’m a baseball fan, so I’ll be OK during this period. I am capable of enjoying the small moments of positivity in the greater negative picture. The lack of a reasonable chance at a championship at the end of the next few seasons is not going to drive me away, or temper my love of baseball and of the Mets. But Until there is some fundamental change in philosophy (or perhaps until there is a philosophy at all put in place) for the organization, the regular season is all there is going to be for a few years.

  5. Mr North Jersey says:

    2010?

    catcher = Molina
    first base = Murphy
    second base = Castillo
    shortstop = Reyes
    third base = Wright
    left field = Bay
    center field = Beltran
    right field = Francoeur

    starters = Santana/Maine/Perez/Pelfrey/Niese
    bullpen = KRod/Parnell/Feliciano/Green/Misch

    • dentulous says:

      i dont think Bay is leaving Boston. It would be nice to have him though.
      Also, does anyone really want Murph at 1st? I was high on him in the beginning of the year, but since then he has dropped off tremendously (probably due to irregular play time), but we need to get someone with more production since offense is this teams problem.
