That Gary Sheffield and Omir Santos are tied for 3rd in MUAs speaks to the unpredictability of a 162 game season in general, and the 2009 season specifically.
Here’s hoping that Le Français can keep up his 1 MUA per game pace.
agreed..i had to do a double-take on those guys lol
I missed what Frenchy did to get a second award.
one for his first day
and another for the smackdown of the reds 9-7 i think he collected another two hits and an rbi
He had two hits but no runs or RBI. That’s a pretty weak award unless I missed a defensive play — given that Wright drove in 3, Murphy drove in 2, Tatis and Schneider hit HRs (Tatis’ a big pinch hit shot), Pelfrey pitching 7 strong and Parnell shutting the door when the game seemed to be spiraling out of control.
There were no shortage of deserving winners, with Parnell at the helm.
I think Frenchy got one there as a goodwill gesture.
lol two hits in two days…not many mets have had multiple hits in consecutive days. Granted it may have been a little week but other than david wright, i doubt many mets have more than one hit in two days. Most have one really good game and are non-existant the next or benched..
Well, the official scorer is always friendlier to the hometown player!
Totally off topic here, but what do you guys think about, and what do you think it would take to acquire Mark Teahan for LF? ( http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/splits?playerId=6011 )
Good lefty/righty and home/away splits. Hits righties for more power, but not bad against lefties at all. makes about 3.5mil and is 27. Also plays 1B, some 2B, and 3B.
Plug him into LF this year, and look at him for 1B or 2B next year? Then in the offseason Omar can either get a bat for LF/1B, or keep murphy at 1B and just get a bat for LF, or any other myriad of options.
He will slide into 2nd on the mets for most homers (1 behind sheff), but he has 19 doubles already and seems to be more of a line drive/gap hitter (something this team needs to build on).
Its not the most flashy of trades, but the potential he brings at 2b or in LF certainly qualifies as “outside the box” thinking.
At the very worst we have him/reed/pagan as potential trade pieces for something in the future?
I’d rather improve 1B, since Shef is doing a good job out there. I know he can’t play every day, but I think you can get a greater improvement from 1B.
I don’t think Teahen does enough to help the Mets as they are comprised right now, but if he is willing to take on a super utility role with a healthy Met team this year and beyond I think he would be a wonderful acquisition, spelling people all over the diamond.
As an everyday player at 1 position I don’t give him a lot of consideration, but a little bit here, a little bit there, I love the idea.
What if he could play an adequate 2B? (Assuming of course the Mets trade/dump castillo) How good would his line look there?
I’d personally like to leave Murphy at 1B everyday until Delgado comes back this year. I want to see what he has on a consistent basis as this is a learning year for him. I really think people are selling the kid short and after a year to develop in the bigs he will come back much better next year. To be honest, I see him starting the season as our 2010 1B.
I agree..if he survives july, im pretty certian he will be our starting 1b man next year.
i actually see the Frenchy move as basically showing they see Murph at 1B or expendable.
That move to me said Beltran is CF, Frenchy RF, Hopefully FMart in LF, and Murph to 1B
Unless Frenchy finds 2006, F-Mart grows up quickly and Murphy finds a happy medium between first half 2009 and September 2008, the Mets will not have a very good offense next season; even with the big 3 back in tact.
Those three things are a lot to ask for based on what we’ve seen so far this season from the two kids and the last two seasons from Francoeur.
i actually think now that fmart wont be up here due to what you just said..no power next year. They will sign a corner OF on a 2 year deal imo
whether its FMart or a short signing, I think the Frenchy signing shows Murph is gonna stay at 1B.
err frenchy trade
Mrose: Didn’t Murphy’s defense in LF already resign him to 1B?
Or do you mean as in permanently for the Mets beginning next season?
If Murphy bounces back in the second half and hits .280-.300 with 20 doubles, I would be open to him playing 1B next season, so long as Omar does something creative in LF and either C or 2B to get more pop in the lineup.
you got it, I meant permanently
Fair question, but it is a big “what if” as you phrased it. I also don’t see the possibility of dumping Castillo being realistic until after 2010.
I still like the idea of Castillo’s superior OBP in the 1st or 2nd spot in the order. Teahen’s OBP is .335 for his career, Castillo’s is .368. And yes RBI are terribly subjective, but with 0 home runs Castillo has 18, with 9 HR Teahen has 29. I realize it’s not a great comparison but it seems that Teahen, who’s been batting 3rd quite a bit, should have more RBI to go with those HR.
For discussion sake let’s say Teahen is an adequate 2B and starts there for the Mets. Who bats 2nd in the order behind a healthy Reyes?
Probably an unhealthy somebody…
Teahan is more of a 7th hitter than anything else. If Teahan became the fulltime 2B and Murphy was the full-time 1B, then I think Murphy would be the two hitter.
And THAT would be a God awful Right side infield defensive team!
Indeed. And those guys won’t justify it like Jeff Kent or Ryan Howard (each of whom played with pretty good counterparts in their day, JT Snow and Chase Utley, respectively).
Not to mention with PT and the resulting experience, Howard has improved his glovework noticeably.
What’s PT?
And Howard was probably not the best example, anyway. He’s really not that bad of a fielder as you say.
Playing Time. Unecessary for me to say, I could’ve just said experience and that would’ve covered it.
I agree that it would probably be Murphy batting 2nd and Teahan 7th behind Frenchy. And Murphy’s defense at 1B is actually pretty darn good considering he hasnt played there before, is learning a new position in the bigs (in nyc), is only 24, and has only ONE career game at AAA.
So a mock lineup in this fantasy would be
Reyes SS
Murph 1B
Beltran CF
FA Bat LF?
Wright 3B
Frenchy RF
Teahan 2B
Santos/FA or Trade Acquisition C
Pitcher
An interesting lineup possibility, obviously the key is who plays LF?
No, who’s on first.
Bunch of Gangstas!
lol…ladies are on the bus
Wright Leads the Mets with 10 MUA’s
Of course he does…. ha ha ha
did i miss the funny?
Haven’t you watched
the first half?
Lots of bloopers!
What does that even get at, I have no idea, other than perpetuating your crusade/agenda beyond all rational validity.
Wow, you seem to be in
a bad mood today fellow
fan AND we didnt lose another one lastnight.
MRose said”did I miss
the funny?” AND I said:
Haven’t you watched the
first half?Lots of bloopers! Now that may
not have been “I hate Illinois nazis”Funny
BUT It was sort of funny. AND what crusade? I didn’t start
a blog or letter writing campaign.
AND what agenda?
I’d like another
Championship before I
die? and/or I disagree
with some over the job
Omars done? OR how much
The Wilpons actually
care about Winning?
Touchy,touchy Heb.
I don’t think he was referring to your vendetta, Fongy (though I suppose you may have just unintentionally proved that you have one!) but rather was referring to Mr. Bill’s vendetta against David Wright.
Why would anyone
have a vendetta
against Wright?
Unless ofcourse
you’re
our old friend Alex who
I think
is either related to or on the payroll of the
great ARoid.
And man
does that contract
look awful right now!
Yes Wanny is correct. I know the nesting sucks, but if you look closely you can see my comment was a reply to Mr. Bill, not you. It just happened that my comment was below yours “geographically” but it was indented to the right to allegedly show as a response to Mr. Bill.
Stop using all that fancy
computer lingo Heb!
Makes myhead hurt!
Sorry, rebooting…
Fongy — I actually thought Bill and Alex were the same. But in an unqualified bit of forensic work, I have determined that although he is way off base (most always) his writing is far too lucid to be the same as Alex.
Love how many of you have the Can’t
Miss Kid FMart penciled in for an OF
spot for 2010! Based on the robust
Buck76 he hit Before getting Injured
again! I’m really starting to think
some of my fellow Met fans are former
Cubbie fans.
Whether he hit 176, 276 or 376, he obviously still can’t stay healthy enough to stay on the field.
My point exactly!
While Omar has been
building this guy up for 3 yrs now, having
actually seen him fairly regularly in
‘07&’08 it was/is still
obvious to see the kids
not even close.
I definitely see tools (to the extent my untrained eye is capable), i.e. pop to the opposite field, a nice swing, good defensive ability, better than advertised speed. But I definitely agree that he is not ready and should probably be in AAA until at least this time next year learning how to drive pitches that can be hammered, lay off that low and away breaking pitch and simply become more experienced all the way around.
Agree
completely Wanny!
WAIT!
Your last post
sounds
like one
of mine
from months past!
Maybe thats why I agree?
I don’t know. But there’s something wrong in the world if we’re agreeing so much.
Let’s cut it out.
but if we stopped RIGHT NOW…then I’d would actually be agreeing…so..errr..I’m confufed and now my head hurts!
I love how one person types something and it morphs into “many of you.”
Anyway, pencils have erasers. I don’t think anyone has boldly permanent markered FMart into anything.
Really?!
Really!?!
indeed!
so I mention that I THINK the frenchy trade means that fmart goes to left, and now many of us have him pencilled in, and then later in the conversation spoke about how I corrected myself when others mentioned maybe another corner OF on a 2 year deal and say “yes, that could be too”
way to read
Good thing you corrected yourself!
for the record, I corrected myself before you even made your initial post..so I’d imagine someone else in this thread mentioned FMart as being penciled into the starting OF next year, either that, or you should try that whole correcting themselves thing
I’m just
joking!
Lighten
up a
little!
I am..sorry, I think everyone is on edge with this team, plus i’m bored w/ no real baseball
actually I’m in a very good mood! No loss lastnight AND we won’t get an L tonight either!
Plus w/the break we all get to be a little more optimistic again! For a few hrs anyway.
haha good call, we will be undefeated for 5 straight days before thursday!
hows married life fongy?
Thanks for asking Bro! Same as before! We’ve been living in sin for 3yrs now so the only thing thats changed is her last name.
That and now more of your unmentionable activities are not illegal.
nice man, my day is coming up quickly….we’ve been living together in sin for just over a year now ourselves
True dat! Heb.
Sell high Omar!
Sell who high?
Anyone not named
Johan,KRod or Wright!
Then he would most definitely be selling low.
Errr,
yeah you’re right again.
Although
if some contender not named the Phillies
lost their 2B
I’d take the 1st
offer on
Castillo
one quarter for Castillo
too high, too high
Done Deal!
off topic… http://gizmodo.com/5312623/teenager-falls-into-open-manhole-while-texting
whats wrong w/ this article (multiple right answers)
-NYC Sewer cap says “Made in India” jumps out at me as being wrong.
-Showing a closed sewer pic in a “falls into open sewer” story.
-Repeated references to a “manhole” when it was a female that fell in.
-Can one be “mentally injured” by an odor?
I’ve investigated many
a trip&fall and most
sewer caps are made
in India. Another
thing wrong is the
30days statement.
In NY you have 3 yrs
to file a notice of
civil suit.
b/t/w, I heard about this story a few days
ago and THAT was the
1st thing my wife and
I said.Shes got a
lawsuit!
I certainly can’t dispute that the caps are indeed made in India, it just strikes me as outsourcing, which I consider to be wrong.
USA! USA! USA!
Sad but been going on for yrs!
The crazy thing
is that when I
was a
kid playing
stickball&street
hockey
we’d climb down the
sewer after
lost spaldings&pucks.
This was in the 70s when there were rats the
size of cats down there.
Now a parent would think
Lawsuit
b/c the
sewer drain
was accessible and
the kid
may have
suffered
as a result of being in the sewer for a few mins
Fongy — to sue a municipality such as the city one must file a notice of claim within 90 days of the event (the complaint would follow that). however, i’m not certain but that time may be extended where the plaintiff is a minor.
you are referring to the statute of limitations of 3 years for negligence actions.
Well I guess I don’t need to ask you “boxers or briefs” because you just gave away the answer
Is that a lawyer joke I don’t know yet?
I thought so.
“Boxers or briefs” is one of those alleged personality identifying questions asked of men about what type of underwear they wear.
Don’t lawyers “file briefs?”
If not, it’s not a joke, it’s just a mistake on my part, which wouldn’t be the 1st one today.
We certainly file briefs but I think a judge would find it perverse if a lawyer wore one before handing it over to the court clerk!
I understood you the first time Heb and I appreciate it.
see, i understand the concept that people sue for anything, but the fact that she was texting when she fell is the part that kills me. It shows whats wrong with society (and i’m not saying i’m not guilty of being oblivious as she was)
I drive ALOT b/c
of the territory I cover and you cant believe the number of people
texting
while driving!
Everywhere! Interstates,city
streets,etc..
I’m so immune to “frivolous lawsuits” no matter how one defines that phrase that, while I agree the concept that this family might sue appalls me, it’s so commonplace that it was well down my list of things that are “wrong” with the article.
Does that make sense? I am having trouble successfully communicating today.
I’m still upset that about a decade ago a McDonalds customer won a huge financial settlement from them after spilling coffee on him/herself. If you hand me a cup of coffee, and I dump it on myself, watch out cuz I’m suing you!
Next time I run into someone because I am changing the radio station in my car, I’m going to sue the radio station for playing a crappy song that forced me to change the station, the artist who made the crappy song, and the manufacturer of the radio for making the dial inconvenient.
That not as much of a stretch as you think!b/t/w I worked for Lloyds who insured Mcds years ago and it was about 15ys ago and the Clt.was an elderly women
in the “hot coffee case” she was rewarded BUT it wasn’t as crazy as it 1st seemed. The problem for the defense was…why did McDs provide her a cup of coffee
which was so hot NO ONE could drink it and so hot that even the toughest of hands could only hold it for a few secs.
that actually makes more sense
You’re right, I remember now that it resulted in the entire chain lowering the temperature of their coffee or something along those lines.
Now that you remind me of that I do recall coming in off the ledge after reading the temperature aspect.
Given your reminder, I respectfully retract the coffee story as an example.
There are enough genuine examples out there, I should not besmirch the person who got scalded.
As vigorously as we as Met fans argue about various aspects of the team, we would likely get much more heated if we started debating the merits of various widely known court cases of the last few decades, so I’m just going to quietly back away from the topic now.
I’ll not soon forget the rift caused to friendships depending on what side one sided with in “The British Nanny” case or “The OJ case.”
I believe it was in New Mexico and I learned about it through our newsletter(before the internet)
.Worked alot of McDonalds claims!
Ballpits/playlands are Lawsuit Central!
Mrose — the defendants would use a theory called contributory or comparative negligence, i.e. the plaintiff was at partial or total fault.
Depending upon the degree to which she was at fault, the defendants may win or have the size of the verdict reduced accordingly.
surely, her lawyers will argue that she had a reasonable expectation that there would not be any gaping holes in the ground — and the city will argue that they had no notice that the cover was removed.
Jeez it sounds like we’re in the same biz wanny ! No wonder we always go at it!
You are absolutely correct though.
And you are right in correcting me above!
Jeez I’ve been in PA too long!
sounds like you just took Torts
I’ll take ‘em if they’re Raspberry Torts!
I took the course several years ago and now live them every day.
A Looong time ago Case!
Talkin’ early/mid80s!
Also, if a typical American teenager fell “4 or 5 feet” into a hole, wouldn’t their head be sticking out? And couldn’t they just reach down and pick up their lost shoe?
If I read that article one more time I will develop a strong hatred for this 15 year old stranger and her entire immediate family, so I’m going to stop now.
the clear error is that the accident occured in Staten Island, yet the sewer cap says NYC
LOL.
Oh, snap! I was going to say something about Staten Island being an open sewer but then I remembered they have internet access there. Whoops I, uh oh…
keeping with the off-topic theme… http://www.huffingtonpost.com/andy-borowitz/man-commits-suicide-after_b_231271.html
wrong with this?
Best line of the article:
In my heart I believe that could have saved Jude’s life, even if he didn’t have one,” she said.
That IS LOL Funny!
Number one thing wrong,
why the heck would anyone
be reading the huffingtonpost?
Number two,why didnt he kill himself for being a harry potter fan to start out with?
my fiance mentioned it but didn’t give a source, so I googled it and this was the first result
boo on both counts.
i need to start thinking before I post stuff, sorry folks
lol
http://www.snopes.com/politics/satire/potter.asp
What the heck, blame the future wife!
as long as she never knows
Yeah! That might be bad!
Blame it on Omar?
Is it even true? The author is acknowledged as a comedian.
The “wears a wizard hat around town” was particularly hilarious, as was the “Ms. Clovis said that she hoped Mr. Ralston’s death would cause federal authorities to tighten the flow of Harry Potter plot information to prevent similar tragedies from taking place.”
My aplogies to the Ralston family for my blatant lack of sensitivity to their plight, if it’s true.
As Fongy points out, the Huffington post is a far cry from a legitimate newspaper and makes the NY Post seem like a text book on current events.
ha, at least w/ Huff post you know what ur getting, while others claim to be “fair and balanced”.
Hence the reason not to get your
new from
one source!
unless ur talking about Mets news, cuz I only get mine from The Real Dirty Mets Blog
Go tell it on the mountain!
(and the double-sided business card)
Got me there case!
didn’t this guy read the books?
After reading Fahrenheit 451, he burned the books.
“But when he started wearing that wizard hat around town, we really should have seen that as a cry for help.”
Ya think?
“Ms. Clovis said that she hoped Mr. Ralston’s death would cause federal authorities to tighten the flow of Harry Potter plot information to prevent similar tragedies from taking place.”
Does anyone really expect that this will happen again?
So Ms.Clovis now wants
Harry Potter Nazis?,
The Harry Potter Police?
C’mon guys just quidditch, it’s not funny anymore.
We’d all be banned for this
by Mattalmighty!
Imagine the complaints flooding his email inbox from disgusted readers!
good point, just the word “off-topic” and then trying to post a link? forget it!
Damn us! Met Fans!
I don’t know what’s funnier, the video or the song.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5sMwgHkMZdQ
God is that awful!
Later fellas!
Time to fire-up the Grill!
Slightly more on topic, did any of you hear the debate this morning and whether you did or not, which side are you on?
Which Peanuts character does Tim Lincecum look more like, Peppermint Patty or Marcy?
http://www.ttrove.com/images/Standups/891%20Peppermint%20Patty.jpg
http://bestuff.com/images/images_of_stuff/210×600/marcie-24060.jpg
Peppermint Patty hands down. Same hair.
One vote for P.P.& I’m out!
Good afternoon!,fellow fanaticos!
Don’t forget the bar with your grill!
buen provecho
peppermint patty it is
Can we make 300 posts?
Here’s aiming for 300:
Ben Nicholson-Smith: More than anything, the Mets need to see how their team looks when Carlos Beltran, Jose Reyes and the rest of their disabled players return to action. They could still contend in 2009, so I’m not about to rule them out, but they can’t make a desperation move just to show their fan base they want to win.
They could try to acquire Halladay or Matt Holliday, but they’d have to take on salary and give up top prospects like Brad Holt and Fernando Martinez. When your team is 6 1/2 games back and as banged up as the Mets are, no new player can guarantee they’ll contend.
Mark DeRosa would have been a nice fit for the Mets, since he’s versatile enough to play in the infield or outfield. They missed out on him, but Mark Teahen would be an equally good fit. He’s a good defender at either corner outfield position, and he can play first, third and even a little second. He has pop against righties, so he could spell right-handed bats like Fernando Tatis, Gary Sheffield and Francoeur. Best of all, he’s just 27, affordable ($3.6 million this year) and won’t hit free agency for another two and a half years.
***
The Halladay trade isn’t just for this year. I would prefer to give up top prospects for him over Matt Holliday, because Halladay wants and extension, Holliday wants to play in the Bronx.
Carlos Gomez, Philip Humber, Deolis Guerra, and Kevin Mulvey for Halladay.
throw in david west.
In 2007, Baseball America listed those four as the Mets #3-6 top prospects.
Today, that would translate to Niese, Holt, Parnell and Marte.
I think I’d have to pull the trigger on that.
me too
Could be an interesting trade deadline this year.
If they have a great run in the nest 2 weeks, get close, and have very positive news on the DL front, wonderful. Feel free to make a reinforcement deal, but would they even need to?
Or, if this year is going to officially be a write off, tank the next 2 weeks, so they are so far out Omar won’t do anything stupid (and may even try to sell off some spare parts.
The danger zone is more treading water, settle at 8-9 back, get ambivilant news on the calvery, and have to worry about Omar pulling a 2nd Kazmir deal.
