This Day In Mets Infamy With Rusty 08-31-09

Good Afternoon my fellow brothers and sisters in ( Mets) arms. As we all know today is a off day so the pain that is the 2009 season will subside for another twenty-four or so hours when the first pitch in Colorado. With that said , it is time for ” This Day In Mets Infamy With Rusty”
first off , celebrating a birthday today is a pitcher from the mid ’60’s - Tracy Stallard (1937)
Also another year older is the piece of crap outfielder we recieved in return for Jeff Reardon ( or was that Ellis Valentine? - does it really matter !) - Claudell Washington (1954)
And our token Asian player from the ’90’s - Hideo Nomo - is forty one (1968)
and lastly Pat ” If you blinked in ‘92 you missed me ” Howell (1968)

New York Mets purchased Bill “Reverend” Graham from the Detroit Tigers on August 31, 1967.

New York Mets traded Jerry Grote to the Los Angeles Dodgers for Dan Smith and Randy Rogers on August 31, 1977. This completed the nuclear explosion that was the M. Donald Grant years, and a fine nuclear winter enveloped the team until 1984 !

New York Mets traded Pete Harnisch to the Milwaukee Brewers for Donny Moore on August 31, 1997. As we know Pete couldn’t play nice with Bobby Valentine and was banished from his sight!

New York Mets sold veteran utility man Tim Spehr to the Kansas City Royals on August 31, 1998.
And lastly does anyone want tickets to saturdays game?? somebody? anybody? oh ….. nevermind !!!

Ellis Valentine! I remember the day that trade was made and thinking it was horrid at the time!

So someone tell me is Marty Noble an idiot?
So I am cruising through the MLBTR post and there is a link saying Noble wants the Mets to make a play for Derrek Lee AND or Jayson Werth. So I am intrigued. Lee could be available I was thinking because the Cubs are very old and a lot of high priced contracts. So then I thought, I guess Werth must be a FA, he would be a very good pick up. So I move on over to Cots Contracts and notice he has 1 year left on his deal for 10M. Now how in the hell are we going to get Jayson Werth? Like the Phillies are actually going to trade one of their core players to the Mets. LOL. Waste of time.

Pete Harnisch….I remember him. Remember he had one really good season two years before we got him and two really good seasons after we traded him. Had to look it up but was a 16 game winner in ‘95. Of course, we get him and he’s diagnosed with ‘medical’ problems - depression, I believe. Reason he sticks in my head is b/c his home is only a few miles from me.

So we trade him as he didn’t do much with the Mets and the following two seasons he goes on to win 14 and 16 games respectively. I don’t even know who Donny Moore was….

Can someone please explain the Beltran injury to me?? Is the bone bruise all of a sudden 100% gone? It just healed all of a sudden…I mean last I heard it wasnt getting any better with rest…then we heard a quote from Beltran saying he wants to get back and play even against doctors orders?? Now hes OK when it got worse last time he played with it? Ugh..I am so confused.

I know we all love to bash the med staff but I know this organization wouldnt let him play in this lost season unless he was 150% Ok…but how can he be??

Entertainment of the evening. Fox Business has a debate between author Erin Arvedlund (who claims the Wilpons will have to sell), Jim Duquette and his earlier quote on the Mets closing the Fall Instructional League and Mets front office executive Dave Howard.

    Uh…Howard 1, Arvedlund and Duquette - zip.

Some rumors floating around about Milton Bradley. On one hand I am logical and think there is no way he could handle NY if he can’t handle Chicago. On the other hand we could most likely get him and cash for Castillo…. He has 2/20 left and Castillo has 2/12. Say we got Chicago to chip in 5M and we used that money towards Hudson? (I am guessing Hudson will cost around 7-8M for 3 years).
