Brandon Webb to be retained, Uncle Floyd released

Well I guess we can cross Brandon Webb off our list of available pitchers
As per Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic. Arizona Diamondbacks part owner Ken Kendrick addressed the teams future future. He said that the team has “every intention” of exercising Brandon Webb’s $8.5MM option.
Damn I could ve imagined either him or Roy Oswalt slotted right behind Johan Santana - that would be a lethal one two punch !!
Also according to MLB.com’s Brian McTaggart, the San Diego Padres have released outfielder Cliff Floyd. Uncle Cliff made just 17 plate appearances in 10 games, generating only a couple of hits and a walk. I suggest we offer him a minor league invite to spring training and if he proves healthy he could be a good bat off the bench and he could also provide the veteran leadership this team has been lacking

Let him go man, let him go. LOL.
then can offer him a bench coach job, or something in the minors, but that’s it.
veteran leadership isn’t what’s lacking. It’s talent. Let’s see if Omar can find more of that.
Cliff Floyd? Naw, that would be like Gary Sheffield, part II. He’d have a couple good at bats, but not nearly enough to be taking up a spot on the 25 man roster.
You know, I love Floyd dearly, but he’s looking pretty done. He’s be a good mentor for players, but he shouldn’t be on the diamond anymore.
Been down that road already, Rust. Cliffy is apparently a great guy and was a long time
ago a pretty good, seemingly always injured player BUT it’s over for him.
Time to move on to younger, healthier players.
This would not even be a Sheffield situation. At least he has been productive even in recent years. Floyd is the antiSheff. Good guy, completely unproductive.
Too bad about Webb. Maybe Arizona is picking up the option so they can trade him.
Cliffy’s best contribution to the Mets would be to hang around and pick on David Wright like the old days. Maybe give him one of those vague community relations jobs and let him hang out at the park and with the guys.
Cliff doesn’t seem like the coaching type to me.
