Mets Blogs Round-Up

Let’s take a look at Mets Blogs Round-Up.

Metsblog: Read: The Pros and Cons of Kevin Towers by Matthew Cerrone

…i did speak with someone the other day who reminded me that it tends to be the team’s way to hire the inevitable replacement, giving them a less prominent job, but making it quite obvious who is on deck, before the current GM or manager get the axe… off the top of my head, i think of Dallas Green and Jeff Torborg, Davey Johnson and Frank Howard, Jerry Manuel and Willie Randolph, the Joe McIlvine and Steve Phillips, then again with phillips and Jim Duquette, and even minaya, who was a phillips assistant…

Metsblog: I’m Reading: about Johan and Gomez, and Errors by Matthew Cerrone

in watching the Twins, i can’t help and wonder what santana was thinking, while sitting on his sofa, watching his former teammates in the post season

Metsblog: Daily News: Mets should make Pitch for Lackey by Matthew Cerrone

i still believe the Mets will first look to trading for a pitcher who is already under contract, while aiming to sign a free-agent bat… that’s just a hunch, but i sense the market also makes more sense for that type of strategy

from what i can gather, lackey is seeking a deal similar to what A.J. Burnett signed last off season with the Yankees, i.e., five years and roughly $16 million per seasonalso, he looks like Peter Brady, but without the curly hair

Mets Today: The Big Fix and the General Consensus

In the past, the Mets failed to build a championship team despite needing “only one or two pieces to complete the puzzle”. But this time around we should expect them to fill multiple holes and deliver a postseason appearance? That might be somewhere between wishful thinking and fantasy land.

Mike’s Mets: Predicting the Mets’ Off-Season by Barry Duchan

Well, M and M are back and Jeff Wilpon is publicly saying that the Mets will spend “whatever Omar needs” to make the team a contender next year. There has been a minor shuffle in the coaching staff and several rumors have been circulating regarding the team’s plans. Here’s my take on what will happen regarding some of those rumors:

Mets Merized: Would Kevin Towers Be An Upgrade Over Minaya?

I agree with Hubbuch. Towers may soon get an offer to become a GM before the Winter Meetings, but he may pass on an offer to join a small market team, for the chance to take a lesser job with the Mets with the hope he could ultimately replace the embattled Omar Minaya.

Mestradamus:What Have You Learned? Omar Minaya

What must he learn for 2010? Unfortunately, he’s going to have to learn how to be somebody he’s not. Look, I think Minaya is a good GM … but not for what this franchise needs. His strengths, being able to sign the big fish being paramount among them, was something the Mets desperately needed after the 2004 season when they badly needed an infusion of star power. The Mets don’t need that now. They have enough stars. They need a GM who knows how to construct a roster 1-25. Minaya has proven that’s not a strength for him. most egregiously with the Darren O’Day debacle (yeah, that still bothers me). But if he’s going to keep his job past this season, he’s going to have to make it a strength.

Seven Train To Shea:Put Up or Shut Up For Minaya by Matt Pignataro

Even though the Madoff affect has clearly effected the clubs day-to-day operations, I expect Minaya to be one of the most aggressive GM’s this winter heading into next season. This is the same guy who traded for Carlos Delgado and Paul Lo Duca prior to the 2006 season. Minaya needs to return to that form, as that aggressive GM who isn’t afraid to pull the trigger on a move. Obviously, I’m not saying trade the whole farm system away and mortgage the future, but go out and get the guys we need to win.

Please let me know if there’s a blog post I missed.

Lets see Carlos Delgado and Paul Loduca would be the equivalant of Pena and Martin today? Best guys I can think of that would fit that mold and be available.
