This Day In Mets Infamy With Rusty 10-11-09

Jeez yesterday was truly a dead day within the blogosphere. I must ve gone to 15 different sites to see if there was any new content to whet my appetite but except for David Lennons lame attempt to try to stir the pot by suggesting we sign Hideki Matsui there was almost nothing out there, So I found myself sitting in my car waiting for the Mrs. while she was shopping in Kohls, listening to WFAN and all I heard was Yankee talk, along with pockets of discussion about the Giants and Jets. And I thought to myself - ” The season is really over !!” I should be used tot his being a Mets fan but I really did drink the proverbial Kool Aid that we would at least make it to the post season. And now on with the infamy !!
Celebrating a Birthday today is journeyman catcher from the ‘62 team -Joe Ginsberg (1926)
Pitcher from the ‘72 team and a Product of Flushing - Charlie Williams is 62 (1947)
Orlando ” El Duque” Hernandez is 40 (1969). - or is he ?!?
Possibly one of our best utility players ever - Ty” Wiggy” Wigginton is 32 (1977)
Sadly on this date in 2006 Cory Lidle died in that tragic plane crash in Manhattan (2006)
New York Mets purchased Ken MacKenzie and Johnny Antonelli from the Milwaukee Braves on October 11, 1961.
New York Mets purchased Norm Sherry and Dick Smith from the Los Angeles Dodgers on October 11, 1962.
New York Mets purchased future Rookie Of the Year runner up Ron Hunt from the Milwaukee Braves on October 11, 1962. Ron was known for his spark-plug persona and the fact he wasn’t afraid of being plunked by the pitch.
Detroit Tigers claimed Pedro Feliciano of the New York Mets on waivers on October 11, 2002.Yes that Pedro Feliciano - the Mets signed him back the very next year as a Free Agent.
Lastly Congrats are in order for the Dodgers . But I say LETS GO TWINKIES !!!! ( yes I know the Yanks will sweep tonite - but I can dream)

El Duque is as close to 40 as I am to sleeping with Angelina Jolie.
I think the reception Matt Holliday received before his first at bat last night was decidedly favorable toward a possible return to St. Lou.
Congrats to the Angels!. Nice comeback win. I don’t think Red Sox fans will be forgiving Pappelbon anytime soon. Maybe they should have just left Wagner in there…..
