This Day In Mets Infamy With Rusty 10-19-09

Posted by rustyjr on 6:50pm, Monday October 19th 2009

As I write this Vlad ” The Impaler” Guerrero has hit a game tying two run homer off of Andy ” Born Again” Pettite ( Hopefully this will wipe the smirks of Yankee fans everywhere!!) Anyway - ON WITH THE INFAMY !!!
Happy Birthday wishes go out to former Mets second baseman and most recently as Jerry Manuel’s bench coach - Sandy Alomar (1943)
Overrated utility-man from the ’90’s( or Daniel Murphy Sr. as I like to call him) - Joe McEwing is 37 (1972) I admit I liked McEwing , especially whenever he faced “The Big Eunuch” Randy Johnson. I mean he was positively lights out against him!!

On this day in 1965 the Mets made one of their most important deals of all time when they traded Tom Parsons to the Houston Astros for uber catcher Jerry Grote . Grote for the next 12 years became the bedrock of the teams’ pitching staff and he was also a vocal clubhouse leader . It was great to see him finally return to New York for the celebration of the ‘69 team this past August.
And so Scott Boras might hire Tony Bernazard as a liason to latin players - I say being a Mets fan just keeps getting better by the day ( eyes rolling).
Go Dodgers !! Go Angels !!!

  1. Speaking of Vlad “The Impaler,” despite his HR this evening I don’t want the Mets to go anywhere near him as a free agent. I hope the front office, whoever is actually running it, is aware that Vlad can barely move even in warm weather and he is not fit to be a starting OF in the NL anymore. If the Mets sign him, he will become Vlad “The Torpedo” as he torpedoes the already slim chance the Mets have at shaking up the NL East pecking order in 2010.

“Just say no to Vlad Guerrero” should be on the lips of everyone in Omar’s favorite bagel shop this off season.

And a few weeks ago I recommended that the Mets use the Angels as an organizational model. Somehow the roles have been reversed as the Angels have been very 2009 Met-like with their fielding, base running and clutch hitting versus the Yankees. It is a small sample, but it’s been a bad sample so far. Way to step up as a role model on the national stage Angels.

      Couldn’t agree more concerning Vlad.

And the bad plays aren’t just happening over in the AL post season games either. Both the Phillies and Dodgers have had their share too. I don’t know why this is. Are they all trying too hard? Nervous? Forgot what a cut off man is for?

Glad to see the Angels pull that off with a walk off win though. Sweet.

Now go Dodgers. Holding on to a slim one run lead here in the bottom of the 6th as the Dodger BP just enters the game…

Funny how Torre is not quite the same genius when he doesn’t have Mo to pitch the 9th inning. He looks just as dumb as the other managers with unreliable closers.

Now I almost need to root for the yankees to beat the angels. I am not confidant that the angels will beat the Phils, and I am getting gettingincredibly tired of the philly hype already (being local and all). I really need to move.

dodgers are done. the phillies have their never out of it swagger again, and I fear that the dodgers know they are done after blowing this chance, since, well, they are!

expect a blow out in game 5.

I’m at the point now where I really don’t care who wins anything this postseason. All I want is to be able to finally watch good, compelling baseball after a season of horrors. Nice job by the Angels of making it a series, but do they really need to steal from the 2009 Mets’ playbook? These mistakes in the field look awfully familiar…. I thought Pagan had a copyright on getting embarrassed on the basepaths… screw you Abreu, time to pay some royalties!
