BREAKING NEWS !!! Kapler re-signs with the Rays
Posted by rustyjr on 5:09pm, Tuesday October 27th 2009
Well so much for the Mets getting Gabe Kapler to man Left field
According to the St. Petersburg Times writer , Marc Tompkin, The Tampa Bay Rays Have re-signed outfielder Gabe Kapler to a one-year, $1.05MM deal. The 34 year old Kapler, hit .239/.329/.439 in less than 300 at bats while playing all three outfield positions. ( damn and I was hoping Omar would have brought him in to be the second coming of Shawn ” The Hebrew Hammer” Green)
Tomkins went on to report that Kapler originally signed with the Rays for $1MM back in January.
And on the Mike “fatty fat fat” Fatcesspool Show , S.I columnist , John Heyman maintained that the Mets have tepid intrest at best for bringing in John Lackey and will make a major push at Matt Holliday
All I can say that if this is true C’mon Jeff & Omar go the extra mile for once in your lives and make this team into a juggernaut !!!

You know, Heyman was the same one I saw interviewed at the winter meetings last year saying the Mets were bascially done. Not hours later Omar announces a 3 team deal to acquire Putz.
Don’t know if he realizes he’s obviously not in the loop for everything. I have a hard time taking much of what he speculates as gospel.
i agree but would it surprise you ( knowing our owners) if it were true?
No, you have a point….
it wouldn’t make any sense to me.
While we have options for LF in Pagan, Reed, Sullivan, F-Mart and a slew of FAs, how many #2 pitchers do the Mets have? Zero. So you’d imagine they would want a #2 pitcher.
Will Holliday come cheaper than Lackey? not likely.
So really I see no reason why the Mets wouldn’t go after Lackey. If anything, Omar is probably playing the misinformation game.
Why would Omar say, yeah I’m really only interested in a LF? Wouldn’t that weaken his position and strenthen Holliday and Bay’s? Omar isn’t that dumb, despite what you may think.
Oh, it’s gonna be a long winter.
It would be a shorter winter if I knew what bagel shop Omar frequents. I’d just hang out there with my list of desired acquisitions until he came in, then give it to him so I could relax the rest of the winter safe in the knowledge that he does what he’s told at the bagel shop.
Ha!
Help me out guys how is this (Kapler) breaking news again?
LOL, I have NO clue.
I assumed he was using the term for humorous effect, since MLBTR had the story 4 hours ago and few people care about Kapler in the grand scheme.
I blame TRS for cracking the whip on his stable of authors, with his “we must have multiple daily relevant posts” mantra, you can see how something like this (and my “a-ha” post) might happen.
Nah, that’s fine. Now get back to work. You know my offseason plan deals with quantity of mediocre over quality of a few.
Hey, I love all the posts. Keep ‘em coming this winter!
it was sarcasm i.e the mets going for the cheapest lternative to bay/ holliday - get over it lol btw doumit from the pirates might be available
Thx 4 clearing it up I really didn’t sense the sarcasm. I was kinda hoping but not sure. I hope most who read realized it was sarcasm or else they may be saying is this what goes for breakin news at TRDMB?
isn’t Holliday a Boras client, and Lackey someone else’s?
If so, the Heyman piece makes quite a bit of sense.
I wonder if SI or SB pays him more each year?
hmm, interesting point. I want his job.
