This Day In Mets Infamy With Rusty - The Ignorance Is Bliss Edition 10-29-09

Posted by rustyjr on 5:38am, Thursday October 29th 2009

Good morning to all my fellow Mets fans. I am happy to admit that due to my ambivalence , I didn’t watch one inning of last nights game one of the ” There is no lesser of two evils ” World Series . And you know what when I woke up this morning and checked the box scores - a slight smile crept onto my face. Am I rooting for the Phucking Philths ? ” HELL NO !!” I just want to see these Yankmee fans squirm uncomfortably in their A-ROID jerseys as I hope the Yanks blow out the Philths tonight just to dampen the enthusiasm of those cheese-steak eating inbred from just south of the N.J turnpike !! I want every game to be a blowout so that this World Series is labeled the worst World Series Ever !! Virtually no suspense, no pitching duels no dramatic home runs in the bottom of the 12th - Just pure unadulterated yawn inducing games !!! That’s what I am looking forward to !

Speak no evil, see no evil ...

And now…. ON WITH THE INFAMY !!!!

Happy Birthday to a man who was better known for being a second rate Yankee outfielder as well as his proficiency for getting into bar brawls when he was a Met - That’s right our starting Right Fielder for the 2003 team - Karim Garcia is 34 (1975).

New York Mets traded Ken ” BOZ” Boswell to the Houston Astros for Bob Gallagher on October 29, 1974. I wish Boswell would have attended the 40th anniversary of the ‘69 World Series at Citi Field this past August but from what I have heard , there is still a rift between him and this organization.

Scrub starting pitcher from the 2002 team , Pedro Astacio was granted free agency on October 29, 2003.

Right Fielder Shawn ” The Hebrew Hammer” Green was granted free agency on October 29, 2007

And remember - there are only 158 more days until first pitch on Opening Day at Citi Field against the Florida Marlins .
Lastly - ROOT FOR NEITHER THE PHILTHIES NOR THE YANKMEES TO WIN THE WORLD SERIES !!!! You will have a clear conscious - trust me .

Wow, Rusty, you sound like you need a beer. :p

Ugh, Karim Garcia. There’s a name I haven’t heard in a while. Brings back painful memories of that horrid 2003 season.

For anyone who watched that game last night….
This proves what I’ve been saying for months now: Pitching trumps offense.
Yankees have some great offense and it just didn’t matter.
That’s how those ‘69 Mets won it all, that’s the reason the ‘86 team won Game 6. Shiraldi and Stanley couldn’t shut the door.

I hope Omar is paying attention. Get us a strong #2. Should be the biggest priority, more so than a LF bat.

    • trs86 says:

Hmmm, I suppose so. But it also took a good offense to score against CC. I think you need balance.

      • metsfan4decades says:

Not disagreeing about the balance. I think the Mets absolutely need to get more pop in that lineup.
But Philly offense scored simply because CC wasn’t sharp last night. You could see it by the end of the first. Took him too many pitches to get out of even that first inning. Sometimes pitchers have a rough first but settle into their grove after that. CC never did. I think he was close to 60 pitches after 3. He just didn’t match Lee’s pitching last night. That’s the way I saw it…

    • prismo says:

I agree with your point completely, but Lee isn’t better than Sabathia. He pitched better last night - but in general they’re both great.

    • trs86 says:

See as a coach I always look at things differently I guess. But to me you always here defense wins championships. However, I have never seen a team win a championship 0-0.
The most balanced team usually wins, unless a team is just hot like the Cards in 2006.

    • CaseStreet says:

yup, total domination. I love how Lee caught that flyball off Damon. Total humiliation.

BTW, I don’t think the Philly offense was great. Utley hit a flyball for the 1st HR but crushed the 2nd one. With the way Lee pitched that’s all the offense they needed.
