This Day In Mets Infamy With Rusty 10-10-09

Good morning my fellow Mets fans. First off I would like for us to close our eyes click our heels three times while saying ” PLEASE LET THIS THREE PLAYER TRADE GO THROUGH !!!” ” PLEASE LET THIS THREE PLAYER TRADE GO THROUGH!!” Its not that I dislike Luis “Slappy” Castillio - I think he was a fine defensive second baseman in his time and he has a plate discipline that is second to none. But I went to about 15 games this past season and it was obvious that his fielding skills have diminished greatly - that and I can never forgive that dropped pop-up against Alex Rodriguez and the Yankees that cost us a win ( and apparently led Frankie Rodriguez to lose his confidence - blowing many a save afterwards). So hey if we can unload his bloated contract to the Chicago Cubs and in exchange import Lyle Overbay from the Blue Jays , well you have to pull the trigger on that deal.

“TWO HANDS LUIS !! TWO HANDS !!!”
Okay - and now it is time for a big load of INFAMY !!!!!
Happy Birthday wishes go out to a player Mike Vail (1951) . He was a rising star with the Mets in ‘77 batting .307 with eight homeruns, but that off season he broke his foot in a pick up game of basketball and he was never the same. He was subsequently traded to the Cubs where he never fulfilled his potential. He retired in ‘84.
Utility infielder for the ‘92 team - Junior Noboa (is 45 1964).
Starting pitcher , Kenny” The Gambler” Rogers is also 45(1964) . Kenny was obtained by the Mets from the Oakland A’s for the ‘99 pennant stretch run in which he pitched adequately. But he melted down in the seventh game of the ‘99 NLDS against the Atlanta Braves when he issued a game winning bases loaded walk that eliminated the Mets from the playoffs! I still hate him until this day !
Power hitting outfielder Butch Huskey is 38 (1971) . He showed so much potential and promise when he first was called up by the Mets . His home runs to at bats ratio was on par to Babe Ruth at the time. But sadly the pitchers figured out that he was suceptible to the breaking ball and his power numbers sank along with his career. He now is a frequent participant in the Mets Fantasy Camp In Port St. Lucie.
Outfielder from the ‘06- ‘07 team - Shawn ” The Hebrew Hammer” Green is 37 (1972) . He was a power hitting star in his years with the Toronto Blue Jays and Los Angeles Dodgers, but his power had waned upon his arrival with the Mets but he was still feared bat that helped the Mets going into the ‘06 playoffs.
The Atlanta Braves signed Mets outfielder Esix Snead as a free agent on November 10, 2004.
Reliever Shingo Takatsu was granted free agency on November 10, 2005.
And remember there are only 146 excruciatingly painful more days until the Mets open the 2010 season against the Florida Marlins at Citi Field.

I was having a decent morning until I saw you mention Kenny Rogers. Oh the flashbacks to ‘99. I stayed up so late to watch the end of that game, only to be crushed. I still haven’t forgiven him…
Kenny Rogers: chicken > baseball > food
Shawn Green…wish I could have had a Jewish Mets player to really root for, but he obviously was on roids earlier in his career, and I had trouble respecting him because of it.
Butch Huskey had a great name considering his stature. Stinks that he had to retire before the age of 29…another failed Mets prospect.
LOL food on the mind
Kenny Rogers: chicken > baseball > music
(I have to eat now)
I am not so sure he was on roids. Yes he had much more power but he also dealt with injuries which in turn could be a sign of roids. LOL. But I don’t think it’s fair to say anyone with a power increase and drop off was for sure on roids.
I’m all for this 3some
3 guys, 1 trade?
whatever’s good for the team
