This Day In Mets Infamy With Rusty 11-24-09
Posted by rustyjr on 6:44am, Tuesday November 24th 2009
Well so a new day has dawned for those of us who stay long and the forests will echo with laughter ( yes Led Zeppelin !!)- and Citi Field stands there stoically as a megalith on Easter Island waiting for someone to gaze their eyes upon it with awe an amazement - instead of being the butt of many snide Ebbits Field comparisons and futile Mets jokes. So as we know there has been some Mets rumors but nothing concrete. Will this change before the winter meetings? Who knows - I just hope all these reports of an allotted 20 odd million dollars to spend is just speculation , and we just go out and get the best players to help this team. The names don’t have to all be sexy - but I think we can do better without the likes of Guillen or Marquis as our big splash signings.

” Citi Field - home of the next World Series - or monument to nothing?”
And now on with the INFAMY !!!
Happy Birthday to one of the starting pitchers from the ‘66 team - Bob Friend (1930). Bob is one of the few players to be actually be involved in transactions between the Mets and the Yankees.
Starting pitcher from the ‘94 team - Jason Jacome - is 39 (1970) .
Sadly on this date in ‘03 , legendary left handed pitcher and one time Mets coach, Warren Spahn passed away.
Former Mets coach - Tom Burgess passed away on this date in 2008. He had the distinction the only Mets coach to be from Canada.
New York Mets traded outfielder, Dave Gallagher to the Atlanta Braves for pitcher - Pete Smith on November 24, 1993.
And who says Omar hasn’t made any good trades - New York Mets traded first baseman - Mike Jacobs, along with pitchers Yusmiero Petit and Grant Psomas to the Florida Marlins for Carlos Delgado on November 24, 2005. Jacobs is currently about to be non tendered by the Royals and Petit has barely sniffed the Major Leagues.
And remember - there are only 132 more days until the Mets open the 2010 season against Florida Marlins at Citi Field.

Anyone know when delgado is supposed to play in pr?
December right?
anyone want Miggy and his larger than Fielder’s waist size contract?
Mattsblog thinks Omar wants to get a SP before the Winter meetings?
Does this make sense?
Why not wait it out to get this year’s Wolf?
Or is Omar thinking he has other fish to fry and wants to knock out one pitcher now?
also, who da flying f* used the word “gather” anymore?
I mean really?
From what I can gather, not too many people use it anymore.
But Matt comes from a long line of folks who hunt and gather misstatements, poor grammar, incorrect sentence structure, and the true sign of their tribe, the 7-man lineup.
I know he’s trying to sound professional, but it comes off as being out of touch. More 19th century than 21st century.
