This Is Why I Love The New York Mets

Posted by rustyjr on 5:47pm, Tuesday November 24th 2009

Well I just got home from my job at Staten Island University Hospital and guess what was in my mail box? No it wasn’t the new Victoria Secrets catalog neither was it Megan Fox wrapped in a bow and nothing else ( I got a big mailbox). No I got my bill for my Saturday plus plan for 2010, and boy did I split a gut. Last year for my left field lower Promenade reserved seats in section 436 section 2 seats 15 & 16 I paid 1,100 dollars and that got me an obstructed view of left field extremely limited access to the promenade club ( along with the obnoxious attitudes from the  customer service reps there )and tickets to almost every game after June 30 th that I couldn’t give away. This year these same two ducats will cost me only 1,061.00 - I’m saving a whole 4 % - ALL I CAN SAY IS - WHOOPDEE FRIGGIN DOOO!!! So me and Mrs. Rustyjr decided we won’t renew, we can’t aford that kind of money during this economic crisis, but instead we will go to three or four games this season probably get cheaper tickets on Stub Hub and not be boxed into weekday games that shouldn’t be part of a Saturday plan. The real kicker is that since I am a “valued customer” , I will need to be paid in full by December 19th !!! Oh you just gotta love how this organization is run ! I won’t be surprised when I get a call in February or March from a Mets ticket agent begging me to renew my plan. But you know what between making money with the team , S.N.Y , the naming rights from Citi Group and the additional fifty million they made from Bernie Madoff - they don’t need that measly 1,061.00 bucks from me. Hey Fred, Jeff  !I am and always be true to the Orange and Blue , and I will attend a handful of games this year - but if you don’t make a concerted effort to field a first class team at you monument to your excesses then I will not commit my hard earned money to partial plans next year if the economy improves !

Sorry my friends I am just frustrated and I just had to vent .

Your title caught my attention on Spyder and I’m gald I swung by to read. I feel exactly the same way you do, and I was under the impression that ticket packages were going down considerably. 4% is not considerable enough. At least not for the inferior product that was so incapable of playing fundamental baseball like we did in high school and little league. It was a joke, and for a thousand bucks we deserve better. Good rant.

I’m with you guys. Me and Mrs. Backstra have decided this year to gor for quality instead of quantity and to selectively pick individual games — even if we have to pay much more per ticket. The bottom line is that we’re not going to spend a lot of money for a lot of bad baseball games because of the promise of a $40 savings.

Don’t you guys think it’s too early to write off next year’s team as a team that will play a lot of bad baseball games?

    • wannybackstra says:

My issue of bad baseball games is not necessarily related to their poor play; it’s more about the crap matchups they make you see as part of their ticket packages.

      • trs86 says:

That I would not know about and I agree if that is the case then for sure no reason. Wilpons I think have to know that they will have to do a lot this off-season to keep ticket sells high.

trs86 im not writing off this season in the least - i just cant afford these tickets due to the economy and as much as i like citi field there were some things that were done from a customer service standpoint that left a bad taste in my mout - like i said i will always support this team and i will go to a handful of games - i just justify 1,061.00 dollars when i have other bills that need to be tended to - I wasnt expecting my tixx prices to be slashed in half - but i feel % 10 - % 15 would have been fair - and to make us buy five week night games when you have work & no priority for playoffs / world series tixx was kinda a low blow - hey if the my economic outlook for ‘11 is better i hope to be a partial plan holder - just cant justify it right now

Here is something we can all agree on. MC needs to get over himself.

“In addition, ESPN referenced Jenrry Mejia as Edwin Mejia, who is actually the former agent of Aroldis Chapman, not the Mets top pitching prospect; not to mention their grammar in this post makes my work seem like that of an English Professor. I mean, what is an ‘idea package?””

Seriously how on earth could he call out someone else for grammar, spelling and fact checking?

  5. CaseStreet says:

same here. We’ve bought 5 Sunday packs for the past two years, not in 2010.

    1. they make you buy 5 week games.
    2. there’s 0 discount from face value.

You’d think the Mets mgmt would think it’s better to get fannies in the seats because they’ll make more from what they sell in food, gear and parking.

I’m guessing it was the VIP seats that got the 10-15% discount.

  6. wannybackstra says:

    Mets make it official:

Dave Jauss is the bench coach, Razor will get runners picked off of 1B and Chip Hale (Alex? jajajaja) to coach 3B.

The sight of Razor Shines on the field will make me nauseous.

  7. Rusty no need to apologize. I only ever buy single game tickets, and usually do so after market so I can’t speak from your perspective, in fact in a way I benefit when you suffer because I get those Tuesday night game tix against Pitts that Wanny mentions above for next to nothing (in fact twice last year I was in the Caesar’s Club for two-thirds off face), but that’s not the point.

The point is, the organization made public statements about across the board discounts that would average 20%, and so far I haven’t heard about anyone saving any more than 4%, so unless there is some seating area price being cut by quite a lot, they lied, and that’s not cool at all.

Anyone got any thoughts on Terry Collins as minor league coordinator? I know him mostly for his 3 consecutive 2nd place finishes as Astro manager. The guy who covers the Bisons for the Buffalo paper loves this hire and suggests that Collins is now the “next in line” in the organization should Manuel be fired.

Found interesting on MLBTR that an unnamed executive says “it’s like Detroit is trying to give Edwin Jackson away and I don’t understand why.”

I’m not really fond of the alleged Angel Pagan for Jose Guillen rumor, strictly speaking in the on-field context, mostly because my experience with Guillen is that he’s very streaky. In ‘08 I noticed that of his total 20 HR and 97 RBI, 10 and 45 respectively came in May & June, leaving 10 and 42 for the other 4 months.

That’s my two cents. I may not be around much for the next 2 days so Happy Thanksgiving to all!

I find it absolutely ridiculous that they make you pay so early for these plans. How can you commit that much money when you don’t even know what team the Mets will be fielding on Opening Day?

I’ll still consider making the 7 hour ride down to the city for one game this season, but the debacles I watched in person last year left a very sour taste in my mouth.
