-Jose Guillen would be willing to waive his no-trade to come to the Mets (reportedly for Angel Pagan) which would be a terrible trade but luckily it doesn’t appear it is going to happen (NYDN)
-Terry Collins (former manager of the Astros) is the Mets new minor league field coordinator
- Padres are telling teams that Adrian Gonzalez is not available
-Mets have inquired about Jack Cust and Nick Johnson as well as Russell Branyan

I know the hot stove is all about smoke screens and mis-direction. ANd it is still way early.
but can’t the Mets at least be linked to 1 good player? Just to throw the fans a bone?
Or maybe it is just scaring me that I keep hearing the mets are interested enough to explore guys that have no business being explored.
I know all about doing due dillegence, but man, some guys are no brainers to not evenget tires kicked on.
some 2nd tier “value” guys are fine, and even needed. But not stiffs, whackadoodles and overpaid DHs.

The Mets are busy crafting a Plan B in the event that they do not win the John Lackey sweepstakes, according to Ken Rosenthal and Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports. They would love to sign the market’s top starter, but if they don’t, they want to add from a group that includes Joel Pineiro, Randy Wolf, Ben Sheets, and Jason Marquis. According to a source, that group does not include Rich Harden.

The Rays are said to be interested in discussing a long-term extension with Carl Crawford. If the team does decide to move him, however, the Mets and Braves have expressed interest.
Interesting that Sheets would be a consideration but not Harden.
I suppose they have some intel as to their injuries or at least the types of injuries and the expected repercussions.
yeah, I’d imagine since Sheets is a year removed from surgery, he’d be more healthy.
Plus, when he’s on, he’s prob the best of all of them.
I’d say as good or better than CC.
He’s definitely proven to be the best of them when he can pitch through a season. No doubt.
The reward factor certainly weights in his favor. The question will be how much risk (i.e. dollars and years) he will demand in a relatively weak pitching market.
gotta figure all these post-injury guys want 1 year deals to prove themselves for the big deal next year.
