Manuel Back to Cut Some Mets

Posted by prismo on 15th March 2010

Update: A few new cuts!

“I told him next time he does that I’m going to get my blade out and cut him. I’m a gangster. You go gangster on me, I’m going to have to get you. You do that again, I’m going to cut you right on the field” - Jerry Manuel (June, 2009)

Alright, so this type of cutting is slightly less offensive. Adam Rubin of the NY Daily News is unofficially reporting a number of players cut in camp (meaning they’ll be sent to the minor league squad). This is the first of multiple rounds of cuts.

Clint Everts (P)
Kirk Nieuwenhuis (OF)
Eddie Kunz (P)
Josh Thole (C)
Shawn Bowman (3B)
Eric Niesen (P)
Jack Egbert (P)
Josh Fogg* (P)
R.A. Dickey (P)
Travis Blackley (P)
Bobby Livingston(P)
Arturo Lopez (P)
Andy Green (3B)
Mike Hessman (3B)
Mike Cernevak (3B)
Jesus Feliciano (LF)
Luis Hernandez (SS)

Sorry Josh, not quite yet!

The only notable (in my opinion) is:
Josh Thole, who seemingly will officially not make the big league team to start the season. This isn’t a surprise in the least, but more of a final confirmation.

*Rubin notes that Josh Fogg may decide to retire or ask for his release as he’s been dealing with a muscle injury.

Audio: Davidoff says Bond’s 70 HR’s Are “Just As Legitimate” as Babe Ruth’s 60 HR’s

Posted by Mr North Jersey on 14th March 2010

In an interview with WFAN’s Richard Neer Newsday’s Ken Davidoff shares his thoughts on all this HGH talk. In it he shares a unique perspective not often heard from the media where he is tries to explain how Barry Bonds steroid era 73 homers of 2001 are just as legitimate to the Babe’s 60 homers in 1927 due to the fact that Ruth didn’t face African American, Latino, and Japanese players because of Baseball’s policies at the time.

Neer in hearing this replied by saying “but that was rectified eventually I mean maybe it was 30 years later” to which Davidoff responded with “Take the emotion out of it take the emotion out of it. Statistically those 60 home runs are just as illegitimate as Barry Bonds 70 home runs, or I should say they are just as legitimate. Because you have to view everything through it’s context.

Here is the podcast of the interview courtesy of WFAN
