Barney Stinson pitches in the Mets organization?
If he made the roster that would be legen….
wait for it
…DARY!
(please someone know what I’m talking about)
I don’t…you’ll have to fill me in. Who is Dary?
Quick glance at the stats on this list, looks like the hitters are doing better than all but one pitching prospects right now. Goes without saying though it’s a very small sample size.
That would be killer. Wilt’s record could be in jepordary.
The New York Mets, brought to you by Goliath National Bank…
Why is it that I am repulsed yet can’t look away:
MCBlog:
“following one of the worst three-year periods in team history”
This is part of his reasoning why the Mets could sign Holliday and Lackey. Now granted that is a valid strategy and if the Mets want to spend that much, so be it. But should they be spending that money just because it was ” following one of the worst three-year periods in team history”?
Another classic case of Cerrone living in the momment and preaching to the choir.
If two years where the team almost makes the playoffs are 2 of the worst 3 years in team history…what do you call the past 17 years for the Pirates?
If he had said ending in disappointment I for sure would agree. But I can’t call them the worst 3 years.
And just about the rest of the Mets’ existence. Was Matt around from 1991-1996? How about the Torre-Bamberger years of 1978-1983?
LOL, I just noticed he said three year periodS too. So I guess that was 2007-2009, 2004-2006, …
Don’t forget the ever-horrific 2001-2003!
I could see Matt sitting on his couch wearing his Mets snuggie with Mr. Bill and Alex on his sides, all laughing about their short term memory disorders and not remembering minutes later what they’re laughing about. Ja Ja Ja.
Now that’s funny.
it’s more like JUUUUUAAAAAHHHHHHHH
Can’t stop obsessing over me, can’t you? oh, and trs found your joke about me funny… what a shocker!
*can you? juuuaaahhhh
Get off of it MrBill you bring it on yourself. But more importantly, it would have been just as funny with just the thought of Matt and Alex his alter-ego sitting around in a snuggie.
Why Havens only 1 game? What positions is he playing? Where’s Ike playing? Is SNY carrying any of these games? What’s your favorite color?
Havens is on the taxi squad and only eligible to play twice a week. Ike is playing 1B.
I know Davis was Dh’ed last game. Has he played any OF? I can’t load the scoreboard.
wait, “Taxi Squad”? Does that mean he’s been going out late at night for Dominican Food?
Well played sir.
And my favorite color depends on my mood.
typical lawyer answer, “it depends”
My favorite color “may be” shifting right now…
ooh, ur good at this
LOL - my favorite color? It’s Met orange and blue, of course!
absolutely
and they go w/ everything
Watching that game last night, not even being a fan of either team and I found myself getting caught up in it. Probably because I was rooting for the Angels to pull that game out.
Some some idle observations:
- anyone who thinks we overpaid for KRod and should have went after a cheaper version as in Fuentes, should have watched Fuentes pitch in the 9th last night - or anytime in this post season. I’ll take KRod any day, thanks. Even the Angel fans were commenting ‘where’s Frankie when you need him?’
- Lackey did a good job with that Yankee lineup last night. And boy was he pissed about being removed having given up no runs yet. I know he’s going to be expensive but I’ll take one of Lackey, please.
- I don’t see the hype with Joba at all. I don’t see what’s so good about this kid. And Hughes? …Bah. I still can’t believe Cashman convinced Streinbrenner they didn’t need Johan b/c they had Hughes and Kennedy. Karma - Johan was meant to be a Met.
- Mo…not even an argument that he’s the greatest reliever I’ve ever seen. Talk about cool, calm and collected out there.
Or it’s possible that the Twins liked the Mets guys better. Maybe the Yankees would have included one of them. Or it’s even more possible that Johan said, I want the Mets.
IDK….I don’t seem to remember any quotes or rumors from Johan on where he actually wanted to go, other than him saying wherever it is, get the deal done. I want to get my family settled before ST.
I’m sure he had a preference though. We’ll probably never know. I just hope to god we can give him a chance at winning 18-20 and possibly a CY b/c I believe he just is that good. It’s the rest of this team around him the past two years (BP in ‘08) that makes his stats look less than stellar with us.
Didn’t Hunter say Johan wanted to be a Met?
You could be right - I don’t remember anything about it though.
yup, Bog Nightengale passed on this gem from Tori Hunter, “I know he’s happy, too, because he really wanted to go to the Mets. He’s always wanted to swing the wood. He can hit.

a great day in mets infamy
For all of the hype Mo gets from Yankees fans… he’s earned and continues to earn every bit of it. The man is made of stone.
As Ivan Lendl used to say, “That’s not ice in my veins, it’s Snap-Up from Snapple.”
you mean it’s not the spit ball?
Johan-Lackey-would be great table setters in a playoff series, but who’d be the 3rd?
Ollie, Maine, Pelf, or poss. some guy like Harden or Bedard?
LOL, Right.
fine, I know you’re secretly lobbying for Pedro
I mean he did start in the Playoffs. So did Padilla.
Who cares? With the many days off inserted awkwardly into these series for TV purposes and the reasonable likelihood of rain in NY those two can pitch every game.
Yes, can somebody please explain to me why there’s needs to be an off day in these championship series on a non travel day? I mean, what exactly is the point to that? No wonder the games stretch in Nov.
I wish they would shorten the season as follows:
1) One less week of exhibition games (they can start working out a week earlier in Florida and Arizona, for crissakes, if they need it);
2) Make the mid-summer classic the fall classic in a warm weather stadium like the pro bowl.
3) Schedule 7 double headers per year; can even be done as day night double headers so as not to inhibit the greed of the owners.
This should cut the season by three weeks so that the postseason could still be played without snow.
There you go, sounds like a plan to me.
Although, I’ll bet they’d never go for #2. Those not playing in it will probably never want to give up that 4-5 day break in the middle of the season.
When baseball added the wild card and the division series that was the perfect time and excuse/reason to alter the schedule.
Surprise, they blew it.
As all these major sports develop their own networks, I learn more and more that baseball is run by fools.
The NFL Network has a weekly segment in which the “vice president of officiating” sits down with Rich Eisen who grills him about referee calls or non-calls, and this VP actually has an HDTV and a remote control in his hand and he goes over the play in stop action while discussing what occurred and what the refs instructions are as to how to handle it and whether they did so successfully or not.
Can you imagine MLB doing such a thing? I can’t.
Lackey probably increased his value to the Mets two-fold: with his pitching performance and with his well-documented “grit” and “fire.”
Seriously, though, I’m not sure the Mets have very many guys as competitive as Lackey.
One for sure is DWright… ja ja ja
I was already sold on him completely as this season’s “guy worth overpaying for” but in case I wasn’t yet, “Soash, this is MINE!” would’ve convinced me.
Agreed. Watching that game, and reading lips on that exchange on the mound, I’m thinking ‘what a gamer. Perfect compliment to Johan the Man’.
I like it, right up there with Johan’s, “I’m a Man!”
