Brett Myers To Be A Free Agent !!

Posted by rustyjr on 7:00pm, Friday November 6th 2009

According to Jim Salisbury of the Philadelphia Inquirer Philadelphia Phillies Pitcher and Husband of the Yearwinner, Brett Myers was told today by Phillies GM Ruben Amaro Jr. that the team will not pursue a new contract with him, Myers said that he’s open to starting or relieving with his new club. Quick somebody lock Omar in closet until Myers signs with Pittsburgh !! My biggest fear is when he is announced as our big aquisition and new number 2 pitcher to supplement our rotation. Can we just put him in the same cell as Ambriox Burgos please !!!

Last season Myers, 29, had a  a 4.84 ERA in 70.6 innings this year. He missed time with hip surgery and a back strain.

  1. I’m staring at the available FA SP list again (apologies to my optometrist) and you know, Myers seems just as likely to help the Mets as most of the rest of them do.

The list just screams “Lackey and everybody else” to me. If we don’t get Lackey, just throw the other names into a hat and pick out two, and decline your season ticket renewal.

trade market expedition anyone? Honestly, do you even like Lackey that much? Is he really worth what he’s going to demand as the best fa option out there? I’m rooting for the Yankees to sign him, as I now do every big name free agent, just so other people can someday hate them as much as I do.

        • I do honestly like Lackey a lot, but having said that no I don’t think he’s truly worth the rumored contract.

I just feel very, very strongly that the Mets need a solid # 2 starting pitcher, and of the FA class IMO he’s the one guy that fits the bill.

If the Mets can acquire by trade someone who is reasonably likely to pitch at a solid # 2 level I would welcome that person instead.

I anxiously await MLBTRs article on what SP they consider might be available by trade. Until then I can only speculate based on who will be FA after 2010, and that list includes many interesting names, but the desirable ones seem unlikely to be traded to the Mets IMO.

  2. Guys, I think I’ve found our next GM. His screen name is “elcubanito5516″ and he left the following message which I cut and pasted from the comments section at Adam Rubin’s Daily News “Surfing the Mets” blog:

“Guys, I am a Big Time Mets fan. I have been a Mets fans since 1969. To fix the mets mess it not that hard. In matter of fact it very very easy. But Mr. Coupon has to let our GM run with these ideal, if not he will lose the New York Baseball fan base to the Yankees. Mr. Coupon if you do not do this then you will lose more than the 700 millions you lost to Mr. Maddoff. Here we go: 1. Sign John Lackey - Give him the 90-100 mil contract. 2. Trade for Roy Halladay - Give a Package of Rookie Jenrry Mejia, Bradley Holt, Fernado Martinez. 3. Sign Carlos Delgado to a base Salary of 8 Millions and lace it with incestive it could go up to 18 million. 4. Sign Matt Holiday 5. If you do not want Delgado then get Chone Figgins and move Wright to first base. You now have a rotation of Johan Santana, Roy Halladay, John lackey, Mike Pelfrey and a combo of Perez/Misch/Redding as your 5th Stater. A line up of Reyes - ss, Beltran - cf, Holiday-lf, Delgado- 1B, Wright - 3B, Francouer - Rf, Tholes/Santos - c”

(I just love the phrase “lace it with incestive”)
